During the primary wastewater treatment process, solids are removed. These materials make up over 35 percent of pollutants. This is called a "sludge". The remaining dissolved components of Waste Water Treatment are referred to as total solids. These are the materials that are removed and disposed of at a landfill. The resulting treated water is released into the community's waterways. The following are the main stages of waste-water treatment.
